The electrical work at The Washington Post’s Springfield, Virginia printing press facility consisted of the installation of four new printing presses, the paper conveyer control and paper roller feeder system, and the extension of the printing press room. The new power requirements for these new printing presses included two new substations and associated switchgear and feeder distribution.
The portion of the project that was the most challenging for Dynalectric was the installation of more than 10,000 feet of new MC CLX feeders to the new presses. These feeders had to be installed adjacent to the existing presses on existing walls without interfering with the plant’s normal operation. This was efficiently accomplished without any interruption of the newspaper’s day-to-day functioning.
